Latham/King to blame for government shutdown

Iowa voters will remember House GOP held economy hostage

Extremist House Republicans like Iowa Representatives Tom Latham and Steve King are to blame for the federal government shutdown October 1, say Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement Action Fund members.“Blame for the government shutdown falls squarely on the shoulders of House GOP Representatives like Tom Latham and Steve King for throwing everyday, hardworking Iowans under the bus in the service of an extreme corporate ideology that is hurting, not helping, the economy,” said CCI Action Fund member Ross Grooters of Pleasant Hill. The federal government shutdown may negatively impact small businesses, seniors, students, workers and veterans.  Up to 9,000 federal employees in Iowa could be furloughed, and the shutdown could also potentially delay Social Security checks, veterans benefits, and shutter Head Start centers that educate thousands of Iowa children.  Also closed is U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 7 - which oversees the state of Iowa's Clean Water Act enforcement program.Iowa CCI Action Fund members support a federal budget that puts communities before corporations and people before profits, politics, and polluters.
