The People’s Voice: The convention is over but our activism is not.

From left to right: Shundrea Trotty, Patty Lovera, Varshini Prakash, and Sarita Gupta discuss the importance of grassroots politics and their optimism for the future. DES MOINES, IA – Hundreds of members of Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement Action Fund (CCI) gathered downtown on Saturday to participate in CCI’s 2019 annual convention, The People’s Voice. The convention brought together existing and new members to hear from an all-female panel discussion. CCI Action calls for Steve King to resign

For Immediate Release: January 15, 2019 For more information:   Adam Mason, State Policy Organizing Director, 515-282-0484, adam@iowacci.org Members of Iowa CCI Action calling on racist, white supremacist Steve King to resign from office immediately   Steve King’s racist white supremacist worldview is not new and it is not a secret.  As Iowans we have become accustomed to writing King off as an embarrassment to our state. That is why we confronted King at a campaign event in Des Moines. This is a moral issue and a wakeup call. Many in politics and our government have spent years turning a blind eye to King’s explicit white supremacist worldview for their...

Show your support for SF2280 – make racial profiling illegal in Iowa

Horrific cases of racial profiling have made national news, and we’ve seen local cases in Iowa. It’s impossible to ignore that we need to do something so people of color can move safely about their lives. Sen. Brad Zaun (R-Urbandale) introduced an anti-racial profiling bill (SF2280, formerly SSB1177) this session. It passed the Senate Judiciary Committee (9-4 vote) on February 14. In a time where we’re seeing horrible legislation being introduced and passed, this is a good bill we can fight for. It’s going to take many lawmakers hearing from many of you to get this bill on the Senate floor. Our legislators need to hear that we want them to bring this bill up for a vote. Thirty states already have laws on the books – this legislation is long overdue in Iowa. TAKE ACTION NOW – Take a moment to write your legislator using this simple form. Some key elements to this bill include but are not limited to: Provides minimum course study and minimum basic training...
