The meeting Gov. Branstad doesn’t want you to attend

Now that the elections are over, it´s time to govern. That´s why we´re asking CCI leaders from across Iowa to represent their communities at a statewide strategy session this Sat., Dec.1.

We've got the stories, real victories and momentum to drive home real change during the 2013 legislative session. But if we really want to win broad-based changes, we have to move outside of our local communities, come together as a statewide organization, and press for change at the State Capitol. Join us!

Cedar Rapids Gazette urges action on payday loans

The Cedar Rapids Gazette editorial board nails it - cities are left to do what they can to curb abusive payday lenders without action from the Iowa legislature. It's time for them to step up and do the right thing.

The piece references Iowa CCI members work to enact local payday loan ordinances, include the one they just helped pass in Iowa City.

Our view: Payday loan restrictions build support for interest rate caps

The Des Moines Register has asked Iowa CCI Action E.D. Hugh Espey to be a "featured writer" on their new A Better Iowa opinions page.

In this, his second piece, he calls on the Iowa legislature to follow the lead of five Iowa cities and enact an interest rate cap on predatory payday loans.

Play-by-play of the House District 36 candidate forum

Before they cast their primary vote June 5, CCI Action members wanted to find out where three Democratic candidates running for the open House seat stand on key Iowa CCI Action issues.

The goal was to get to know the candidates and find another CCI champion like outgoing representative Janet Peterson. We need more Iowa CCI Action champion in the Statehouse!
