Iowa’s Disappearing Corporate Tax Base

A new report by National People’s Action and the Center for Effective Government co-authored by Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement Action Fund (Iowa CCI Action Fund) finds that a “Robin Hood” tax on Wall Street speculation and closing other corporate tax loopholes could generate significant new revenue for the state of Iowa, which relies on federal money for about one third of its annual budget. Tax cuts leave little money for allowable school growth

A retired teacher and a concerned parent with Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement Action Fund (Iowa CCI Action Fund) both testified in support of six percent allowable school growth over the next two years at a Senate Education subcommittee meeting Jan 27, but the CCI members also asked serious questions about how the state of Iowa can afford to fully fund education at those levels after Governor Branstad’s corporate property tax cuts are already set to burn through the state’s surplus in the next five years.

More than 200 protest Branstad’s pro-corporate agenda

More than 200 everyday Iowans braved winter weather conditions Tuesday to travel to the state capitol in Des Moines and protest Governor Branstad’s pro-corporate agenda during a “People First Iowa” day of action organized by Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement Action Fund. A 2:30pm meeting with gubernatorial candidate Jack Hatch is scheduled at the Henry Wallace Building Auditorium.
