Register calls out “Ag Gag” in two great articles.

The Des Moines Register ran two great articles today calling out the "Ag Gag" bill that now goes to Gov. Branstad's desk for what it is: a total industry power grab.

On the front page Jason Clayworth explores the constitutionality of the bill in "Ag gag bill may gag free speech, say legal scholars". And the editorial board chimes in the the excellent "Livestock 'fraud' bill disappointing. How can it be a crime to tell the truth?" Call the Governor today!

Is Sen. Kibbie carving out factory farm loopholes?

Iowa CCI Action members are blasting Sen. Jack Kibbie (D- Emmetsburg) for pushing Senate File 2022 a bill that carves out a loophole in factory farm permitting and manure management laws. The bill passed out of Senate Agriculture Committee Thursday on a unanimous vote (13-0) and is now eligible for floor debate.

Call your Senator today and tell Vote NO on SF 2022. This bill could open the door for all kinds of loopholes and sets a bad precedent.

Debunking McCoy’s payday lending excuse

Responding to dozens of CCI members urging him to move this bill, McCoy stated that he's worked about payday loans obtained online. And, until they are address he won't move on a state interest rate cap.

[Update] Iowa Senate votes on bad “Ag gag” bill

Legislators are poised to vote today on the bad corporate "Ag Gag" bill, HF 589 very soon.. We think this bill should be DOA. "Ag gag" is an attempt by the factory farm industry to criminalize basic watchdog functions that everyday folks have to hold factory farms accountable for violations they commit. [Update] Why is Sen. McCoy standing in way of payday lending bill?

Last Wednesday, in a sit down meeting with a small group of CCI members, Senate Commerce Committee chair Sen. Matt McCoy (D-Des Moines) state he has no intention in considering a bill to cap interest rates for payday loans at 36%.

There is bi-partisan support on the Senate Commerce Committee to pass Senate File 388. Join other CCI members today and tell McCoy that it's time to crackdown on payday lending in Iowa. Allow this bill to be voted on in committee.
