Branstad’s Public State Budget Hearing Set For Monday at 4pm, To Follow-up Today’s Revenue Estimating Conference

Iowa CCI Action Fund members say no to corporate income tax cuts or flat tax handouts to very wealthy

Des Moines, Iowa –Iowa Department of Management Director David Roederer has scheduled Governor Branstad’s annual public budget hearing for 4pm Monday in the Robert Ray Conference Room of the state capitol, and Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement Action Fund (Iowa CCI Action Fund) members say they will mobilize to promote their “People First Iowa” budget and tax policies and to stand up and speak out against Branstad’s flat tax proposal and calls by corporate lobby groups to cut corporate income taxes this year.Branstad’s annual public budget hearing is generally scheduled shortly after the state’s revenue estimating conference, which is set for 2pm today.“Governor Branstad and corporate lobby groups like the Iowa Chamber Alliance and the Iowa Association of Business and Industry want to cut taxes for corporations and Iowa’s wealthiest citizens, and Iowa CCI Action Fund members are going to make sure the public understands that these pro-corporate policies will only harm our ability to grow an economy that works for everybody and fully fund the vital public services everyday Iowans depend on,” said Cherie Mortice, a CCI Action Fund member from Des Moines.“CCI Action Fund’s ‘People First Iowa’ agenda calls for closing corporate tax loopholes and reinvesting in good government that will put communities before corporations and people before profits, politics, and polluters.”For more information, visit www.cciaction.orgThe Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement Action Fund is a 501c4 non-profit organization dedicated to building social, economic, and environmental justice through community organizing, education, and advocacy.
