 HF 26 REPEALING OFFICIAL ENGLISH

  • Repeals provisions making English the official language of Iowa

 HF 27 IOWA CLEAN ELECTIONS

  • Establishes the Iowa Clean Elections Act
  • Establishes an income tax check-off, rules for candidates and other provisions related to the public financing of elections

 HF 28 ELECTRONIC VOTER REGISTRATION

  • Authorizes electronic voter registration at the Secretary of State site
  • Includes registration requirements
  • Requires the SS number to verify information
  • Includes provisions on first-time voters and on penalties

 

Iowa Senate

 SF 39 WAGE PAYMENT REQUIREMENTS & PROTECTIONS

  • Gives the employer the burden of establishing that a deduction from employees’ wages is lawful
  • Requires that the employer get written notice in advance
  • Requires that employers must give written notice to employees on wage calculations if wages are determined on by the piece, mile or load
  • Establishes a rebuttable presumption that an employer did not pay the minimum wage if the employer does not maintain proper payroll records
  • Requires employers to mail, or to have at the place of business, statements regarding the employee’s hours and wages
  • Requires an employer who gives employees an electronic statement to give employees free and unrestricted access to print out the statement
  • Makes employers liable for unpaid wages or expenses plus liquidated damages, court costs and attorney fees, regardless of whether violations are intentional or not
  • Retaliation: Establishes additional protections against retaliatory actions, including civil actions and penalties from the Labor Commissioner
