Watch live
We believe in an Iowa where every person lives a joyful, healthy, fulfilling life—regardless of where they live, what they look like, or what their background is. But, we know our communities are under constant pressure and attack from climate change, factory farms, over policing, and lack of healthcare.
We’re tired of hearing that our health, our water, and our lives must be compromised or balanced with the industries willing to trade those things for profit.
We’re ready to tell a new story and write a new future.
Are you?

The CCI Action Convention is an energizing, inspiring, and powerful day. It’s a place of hope and action. At this event we’ll learn how we use our voices and build our collective power to turn things around – for us, our kids, and our grandkids.
The day will feature:
- Powerful keynote, panel, and workshop sessions where we will get energized, inspired, and learn from top movement doers and thinkers
- Ways to take action and deepen our activism and political analysis and plug into the issue and election work ahead, like putting Medicare for All and global warming at the center of the 2020 election
- Opportunities to meet and connect with like-minded neighbors and friends who want to work to put our communities, and land before corporate profits, politics and polluters.
- Insight on how we can imagine, speak about, and create the world we need.
The stakes are only getting higher. And this year, all eyes are on Iowa. As presidential candidates criss-cross the state, we have more power than anyone in the country to show the political establishment that people have power – and are using it to organize for the issues we care about.
At The People’s Voice we’ll make history as we make plans for and envision the world we want to see. With hundreds of attendees and a keynote speaker who is one of the boldest leaders of our time, this year’s event is not to be missed.
2019 People's Voice speaker lineup:
Keynote Speaker: Rep. Pramila Jayapal
Congresswoman, State of Washington
Co-Sponsor of HR1384, Medicare for All Act of 2019
The Fight for Medicare for All (“All” means All, y’all)
Pramila is a people’s champion with a track record of relentlessly challenging business-as-usual thinking – and winning. A longtime community organizer, Pramila is now one of the key players in Congress and co-chair of the House Progressive Caucus. She has introduced and is driving the most far-reaching improved Medicare for All bill, helped draft the landmark $15/hr minimum wage law in Seattle, and she charted new territory for immigrant rights in Washington state and nationally. She brings us a powerfully clear and motivating look at one of the biggest issues of our time and how we can win bold policy we need.
Sarita Gupta
Executive Director
Jobs with Justice, Caring Across America
The future of work and the caring economy
Sarita leads bold fights that redefine labor, economic, and political movements. Her workshop will speak about the huge caregiving workforce, and how we dramatically expand people’s ability to come together to improve our workplaces, our communities, and our lives by creating solutions to the problems working people face at both the national and local levels.
Patty Lovera
Program Director
Food & Water Watch
A food and farm system that puts more farmers on the land
Patty is a longtime ally in our fight to say YES to clean water and NO to factory farms. She will lead us in a discussion on how we bring all politics to the local level and organize on the ground to take on corporate power. In this workshop, we will take the next steps in changing the driving force behind Iowa’s economy: the food and farm system.
Varshini Prakash
Co-Founder
Sunrise Movement
Green New Deal
Varshini and the youth of the Sunrise Movement taking back our democracy from Big Oil-backed politicians. Her bold vision of the future asks, “What if the Green New Deal changed everything?” Learn how we organize to win a Green New Deal, and how that policy can change the future of our jobs, our healthcare, and our relationship with the land.
Shundrea Trotty
Director of Services and Projects
Iowa Coalition Against Sexual Assault (Iowa CASA)
History of policing in America
How did our country come to have a two-tiered justice system – with one outcome for white people, and more negative impacts on communities of color? Join Shundrea, a former youth organizer and experienced trainer, in an engaging discussion on racism, class, and generational trauma and their impacts on communities in Iowa, and why we’re still in a two-tiered policing system.
Johanna Rupprecht
Policy Organizer
Land Stewardship Project (LSP)
Owning and flipping the narrative
Johanna has built power and organized campaigns to stop the mining of frac sand for the oil and gas industry in southeastern Minnesota and now co-leads LSP's organizing for universal public healthcare and narrative work.
