Protesters Picket Latham Home
Latham was home and accepted our giant letter, but refused to come out to talk with everyday people and hardworking families concerned about his policies
More than forty Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement Action Fund (CCI Action Fund) members protested outside the Clive home of Iowa Representative Tom Latham Saturday to demand a good budget deal that raises new revenue from the super-rich and big corporations rather than a bad deal that relies on spending cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and other vital public programs.
CCI Action Fund members also confronted American Future Fund president Nick Ryan outside of his house to demand that Ryan’s organization stop lobbying against everyday people on behalf of big-moneyed corporate interests.
Latham was home, but refused to come out of his house. Clive police officers helped CCI Action Fund members deliver a giant demand letter that Latham took inside his house.
“Choices made during the lame duck session will have far reaching impacts on American’s lives for years to come,” said Lori Nelson, a CCI Action Fund member from Bayard, Iowa.
“Going to work for we the people means ending the Bush-era tax cuts for the richest 2 percent; strengthening Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid without cutting benefits; reinvesting in education, housing and infrastructure; and implementing a robust jobs creation program to jump-start economic growth.”
