End Bush tax cuts for richest 2%
Senate vote today, House vote expected soon
Our U.S. House of Representatives will soon cast a vote showing very clearly whose side our elected officials are on – everyday people or the mega rich and big corporations.Lawmakers in Washington are currently debating whether or not to extend the Bush era tax breaks, with a vote in the Senate expected today (7/25).While there seems to be agreement on extending tax breaks for the poor and middle class, there is anything but on extending tax breaks for the super rich. Our deficit crisis is not so much about out of control spending as it is about the need to raise revenue. National Priorities has put together an easy to understand infographic to better illustrate the problem (also posted below).Ending the Bush era tax cuts for the richest 2% of Americans will be a big step toward raising the needed revenue to restore an economy that works for all. And remember - everyone would still get a tax break on their first $250,000. By eliminating these tax breaks on income exceeding $250,000, the government will raise roughly $1 trillion over the next decade. Imagine what we could do to create jobs and jump start the economy with $1 trillion.
Take Action
The House of Representatives is expected to vote on this measure by next Tuesday, July 31.
