Latham's check for millionaires
Today we joined with our friends from Iowa Citizen Action Network to demand Congressman Latham reverse course on the Bush Tax Cuts for the richest 2% of Americans.Last month, Congressman Latham joined nearly all Congressional Republicans in holding hostage tax breaks for the middle class in order to give millionaires an average tax break of $160,000.CCI Action members and others took our message to Congressman Latham's Urbandale campaign office in the form of a giant check - one made out to millionaires for $160,000 from the Congressman himself. A campaign aide begrudgingly accepted the check after our speak out. The GOP bill to extend the Bush tax cuts for one year, including those that only would go to the richest 2 percent, would give people who make over $1 million a year an average tax cut of $160,000, while raising taxes on 25 million working Americans. On the other hand, ending the tax breaks for the top 2% would bring in nearly $1 trillion in revenue over the next decade that could be used for education and putting people back to work.
We also partnered with Americans for Tax Fairness Action Fund to release this video criticizing Latham's vote to put profits over people:
