Earned Income Tax Credit bill passed out of Senate

A bill to expand the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) passed the Senate Wednesday, March 20, 2013 with a vote of 35-15; EITC has gone on to survive April 5th funnel

EITC is a tax credit for working families and individuals, and is one of the largest, most effective anti-poverty tools in the United States. This bill would expand the EITC to 120% of the federal poverty level (SF 422). It currently is set at 107% of the poverty level. This actually puts more money in the hands of the working poor, as opposed to Governor Branstad’s plans to cut taxes for big corporations. Expanding the EITC would help a lot more people – it would benefit individuals, families, our neighborhoods and communities, and all for a fraction of the cost of Branstad’s corporate give-aways.EITC has survivied the April 5th funnel, and will be debated alongside budget issues in the House.Join the fight!
