Dozens of Iowans Share Personal Stories on Medicaid Expansion

Written Comments Submitted to Chief Clerk of the House on Medicaid Expansion Show 109 For, 2 Against

Dozens of Iowans submit written stories and personal impact statements highlighting the need for Medicaid expansion

One hundred and eleven written comments on Medicaid expansion were submitted to the Chief Clerk of the Iowa House on or before April 17 – 109 in favor and only two against.  These written comment numbers are in addition to the 73 people – 56 for, 17 against, who signed up to speak at a public hearing at the state capitol on April 16.

Dozens of Iowans poured their hearts out in letters to the House clerk, putting a human face on the issue that is sometimes lost in debate.   Many are members of Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement Action Fund (CCI Action Fund).  CCI Action Fund members requested copies of the public documents and are hosting the written comments submitted on the House record on their website herehereherehere, and here.“I don’t have any health care and need Medicaid expansion—please vote this in,” wrote one woman from Garwin, Iowa.“I am in a situation where I need IowaCares, as I have developed Diabetes II in the last few years.  I can’t afford health insurance and had to leave my job due to a work-related problem,” wrote a woman from Newton.  “I have spent thousands of dollars on health insurance and finally had to stop as I couldn’t afford all the increases in the premiums.  I am very grateful to have IowaCares and really hope and pray you will pass the Federal Plan and NOT Governor Branstad’s.”RELATED:  CCI Action Fund Members Get Last Word At Medicaid Expansion Hearing
