Iowa CCI Action welcomes Big Bird and friends to Iowa

Big Bird to picket Romney Van Meter event tomorrow

Iowa CCI Action Fund members fly in Big Bird and friends from Sesame Street to demand Romney/Ryan campaign “Make Wall Street Pay”

National icon Big Bird will confront GOP candidate Mitt Romney and his corporate agenda during a campaign stop in Van Meter, Iowa Tuesday morning, according to Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement Action Fund (CCI Action) members who say their organization is flying Big Bird and friends from Sesame Street into Main Street Iowa this week.

“Big Bird and Sesame Street didn’t cause the economic crisis and financial meltdown, the big banks on Wall Street did,” said Jess Reznicek, a CCI Action Fund member originally from Perry, Iowa.

“The letter B is for bully, and that’s exactly what Mitt Romney is: a bully who picks on PBS instead of Goldman Sachs.”

Iowa CCI Action Fund members say that a new economy that puts people first can be built by raising revenues without spending cuts when the political will exists to close corporate tax loopholes, end the Bush-era tax cuts for the super-rich, scrap the cap on Social Security payroll taxes, expand Medicare to all Americans, and enact a financial speculation “Robin Hood” tax on high-frequency trading.

“We didn’t cause this crisis and we won’t pay for it,” Reznicek said.  “It’s time to make Wall Street pay.”

Iowa CCI Action Fund is not affiliated with – or endorsed by – “Sesame Street”.  In a tweet sent out the morning after the debate, Sesame Workshop, the group that produces the show, “Sesame Street” said: “We are a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization. We do not comment on campaigns, but we’re happy we can all agree that everyone likes Big Bird!”
