Many issues were discussed in the gubernatorial debate last Wednesday night, but one got short shrift: Iowa’s clean water crisis.

Iowans across party lines want clean water and air. But pollution from corporate factory farms is making that impossible, as millions of gallons of untreated waste ends up in our waterways.

Fortunately, more and more Iowans are taking a stand. One in five Iowa counties have passed a resolution or sent a letter to the state in support of stronger permitting standards, local control, and/or a moratorium on factory farms.

CCI endorses three movement candidates in North Central Iowa

Tracy Freese is a CCI Action member, a working mom, and a candidate for Senate District 25.

Brenda Brink is a former Iowa CCI board member who is running for House District 49.

Nick Schutt is a family farmer who currently sits on the Iowa CCI board and is running for Hardin County Supervisor.

As with all our endorsements, this decision was made by an endorsement committee made up of our leaders in the district who surveyed and interviewed the three candidates about issues and about how they’re doing politics differently. Read the candidates answers to the survey here.
