Phone bank with us to impact change in Des Moines

Join us on Zoom Mondays and Thursdays! CCI Action members believe in doing politics differently. For us, that means bringing real people, our issues, and our solutions into the center of our political system and electing our people to office. We endorsed Des Moines City Council Ward 1 Candidate Indira Sheumaker because she is aligned with our vision for Des Moines and our belief of doing politics differently. The November 2nd local election provides us an opportunity to do just that in our capital city: prioritize people before the profits of big developers, polluters of our rivers, and police violence. To make that Des Moines a reality and inspire other communities, we have to reach out to more residents and move them to vote.  Join us for a phone bank shift to help us get out the vote and elect a movement candidate:  Thursday, October 14, 5pm-8pm RSVP hereMonday, October 18, 5pm-8pm RSVP hereThursday, October 21, 5pm-8pm RSVP hereMonday,...

Join us for election analysis and actions Nov. 3 – 7

Updated 11/6/2020 Together, we must demand that our election officials protect our sacred right to vote and take the time to count every ballot. We have to stick together to ensure that voters decide the winners of this election and no one else. Iowa CCI Action has joined Democracy Defenders Iowa—a broad coalition of groups committed to standing up, speaking out, and protecting our democracy ahead of, during, and after the election. The people can prevail, but it’s up to us. No system or process can save us. November 7 – Prepared to Mobilize – Voters Decide Rallies SAVE THIS DATE! In America, our elections are decided by voters, not by fiat or decree. Everyone’s vote must be counted. Attempts to selectively stop some votes from being counted is disgusting and unAmerican – and must be met with massive pushback. This isn’t a moment to “wait and see.” We have to raise our voices. We can’t let Trump cheat his way out of losing. We...

[TRANSMISSION FROM THE FUTURE: NOV 4, 2020]

They haven’t counted all the votes yet.  Election Day was yesterday. Iowa’s Senate race and the presidential election are still “too close to call.” This morning, CNN said that there won’t be a total ballot count for another two weeks. Trump is trying to say he won. So is Joni Ernst. But there are so many Iowa ballots left to be counted! That’s why I’m glad that, on October 20th, 2020, just two weeks before November 3rd, I joined CCI Action’s efforts to get out the vote. I know that I did everything I could to add to the vote tally, and now I have a team to work with. CCI Action is still fighting to make sure every vote counts and every vote is counted.  I joined the CCI Action phone bank because I knew we needed to win by a historic margin. I felt frustrated and afraid, and I needed to do something. (You still have 5 days to join CCI Action’s Get Out The Vote phone bank — sign up at this...

Get involved with upcoming election strategy in Iowa!

The stakes of the 2020 presidential election are huge. We all know that.  But the stakes of the 2022 elections in Iowa are going to be just as important – and may have even more effect on our every day lives. The way to build an Iowa beyond profits, pollution, and police violence is simple and CCI members have been doing it for decades: organize everyday people around real issues, and do it for the long haul. As our tables get longer and the bills pile up, our wages aren’t keeping up. As the pandemic rages on, as the economic crisis threatens our ability to afford rent, and police attacks on our communities continue, it has become clear that Gov. Reynolds’s profit-centric agenda is the foundation of the Iowa Republican party. This crisis has hit home for my family, too. Last week my mom went to the hospital for emergency surgery. She got two dozen staples in her stomach and is doing alot better now. While she’s recovering at the hospital,...

Caucus prep: Find your caucus, canvass the crowd, bring resolutions

Do you know your caucus location? Find it here: https://iwillvote.com/ The Iowa caucus engages lots of people in the political process, but it doesn’t keep them engaged in the long term. This year we’re lucky to have two candidates, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, who are inspiring Iowans to stand for big, bold progressive change. Help us connect those people to the year round work on Medicare for All, Clean Water, and a Green New Deal! Connecting with as many progressive Iowans as we can is important because we know big change happens from the bottom up — and we need a whole lot of people to make that happen here in Iowa! That’s why we’re gathering signatures on our “Get Big Money Out of Politics” petition at the caucus. Can you be part of the process of bringing more people into the long-term movement here in Iowa? Watch the training and download a script to talk to people. Then you can get their signatures on this...
