OP-ED: What’s Next—The movement we need

What’s next: The movement we need By Tobita Chow, chair of The People’s Lobby Appeared on the Iowa Starting Line website  8/16/2016 The Bernie Sanders campaign came out of nowhere and took everyone by surprise by nearly winning Iowa. He showed that people are fed up with business-as-usual politics and are hungry for a bold new kind of progressive politics. And now progressives all across Iowa and the country are asking themselves: “What’s next?” I’ll be joining hundreds of Iowans at CCI Action’s “People-Powered Politics” convention on August 20th in Des Moines to discuss exactly that. Here’s a sneak peek at two ideas that I’ll be bringing to the table (borrowed from The Movement We Need, a pamphlet I coauthored at the Center for Progressive Strategy and Research). But the march to Election Day on Nov. 8 is...

An excerpt the book: “There is nothing in the economic universe that will automatically rescue us from runaway inequality. There is no pendulum, no invisible political force that ‘naturally’ will swing back towards economic fairness. Either we wage a large-scale battle for economic, social, and environmental justice, or we will witness the continued deterioration of the world we inhabit. The arc of capitalism does not bend towards justice. We must bend it.”   A $20 value FREE when you sign up...
