Legislative forums (“coffees”) in your district this weekend
Throughout the session, usually on Fridays and Saturdays, state legislators hold short meetings (or “coffees”) with constituents in their home districts. This is an important space to engage with your legislator face-to-face, raise up issues important to you, and call on them to stand on the side of the people.
Why go to your local legislative meetings?
We want to be a powerful fight-back force across the state this session. We need to be in front of as many legislators in their home districts, talking with them directly about our top legislative priorities.
What do I ask them?
- Ask House members to vote no on this bad immigration bill that moves to the floor.
- Will you vote against the local pre-emption bill that would lower the minimum wage for 100K everyday Iowans and gut local control? Will you support a living wage of $15/hr?
- Will you vote no on any bill that deregulates the factory farm industry? Will you vote no on any bill that uses public money to “fix” Iowa’s water crisis? Do you support a moratorium on new/expanding factory farms?
- Will you vote against any proposed Voter-ID bills?
Never done this before? No problem. Click here for tips on talking to your legislators.
